Last Friday several of our champions slept out on the street to raise money for the homeless in Oxford.

Paul and Gina have been working with the homeless charity SWAT for several months giving out food, resources and support to homeless people.

Last weekend, they took part in a ‘sponsored sleep out’ to raise money for SWAT and learn for themselves what it is like to be homeless.

The sleep out started at 8pm and they stayed outside on Cornmarket street until 5am the next morning.

They were joined by several other champions – Dawn, Mark, Andy and Sara - who took part in the sleep out to support them.

At the beginning of the night, there were lots of people from SWAT taking part and on-hand to support. There was even a van with supplies and medical equipment.

However, the MLMC team was the only group who stayed out the whole night.

As Paul said “we carried on because we were representing SWAT, and it was good to support the homeless who have to do that all the time”.

Paul and Gina both said it was an eye-opening experience.

Paul said, “none of us could sleep because of all of the noise and people walking past. I’m really proud of all the guys for joining in and supporting us”

“it has changed my mind about homelessness. We only went through it one night, and I had lots of layers, but they go through it every day.

It has opened our eyes to the discrimination they get from the police and places, even finding a toilet was hard.”

Paul and Gina have raised lots of money for SWAT doing this, but you can still donate here!

Well done to all our champions who took part, we are really proud of you!
