This winter, My Life My Choice member and Trustee Paul Scarrott has been volunteering to help homeless people in Oxford.

Paul volunteers with Nishkam SWAT – an organisation from London which has been helping the homeless since 2009.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Nishkam SWAT come to Oxford from London to give out essential supplies and support the homeless people in Oxford.

Paul has been helping by giving out food parcels, hot drinks and warm clothing; and has learnt a lot about the difficulties of being homeless.

Paul says “there is a lot of stigma around the homeless, some people think they are alcoholics or take drugs. But all the homeless people I have met are really nice, but have very difficult lives”.

Paul has also encouraged other friends, including MLMC member Gina, to help and volunteer.

Other people can help SWAT to help homeless people in Oxford by volunteering or donating foods, items or money.

You can find out more information about how to help or give donations on SWAT’s website
