Earlier this month, Paul Scarrott, MLMC member and trustee, went on an overnight trip to Doncaster for inspections work. Paul stayed at the Premier Inn and had a great experience.
When Paul arrived at the premier Inn the person on reception noticed he had a hearing aid and asked if he would like a portable fire and alarm system to alert him if there was an issue and he had his hearing aid out. The receptionist explained that this system, which goes underneath a person’s pillow to wake them up in the event of an emergency, is a legal requirement and is in all Premier Inns.
Paul has stayed in many different Premier Inns, and other hotels, before and never been offered the system so he was very impressed that this receptionist saw past his hidden disability and offered without him having to ask.
Paul was very impressed with this provision for people with disabilities and had a very good experience. He said that all hotels should learn from the Premier Inn in Doncaster and offer support to everyone, even if they can’t see a disability.
