Being a Gig Buddy is a great way to make a positive impact to people’s lives while having a good time and building friendships.
Gig Buddies matches volunteers with adults, some with a learning disability, recovering from a mental health condition or an older person, so they can access events and activities, reducing loneliness and social isolation and improving health and well being.
There are 35 current voluntary opportunities around Oxfordshire (Names have been changed in order to protect people’s identities):
Do you enjoy walks in the countryside, visiting gardens and national trust properties? Could you spare an afternoon a month to support Ian to visit the beautiful Costswold countryside?
Andrew is a lively guy who is up for trying new things and living life to the full. He enjoys the cinema, theatre, guided tours, museums and days out in the countryside. He has a great sense of humour and would really like to make someone laugh on days out.
Charlotte loves the theatre. She particularly likes musicals. She would love to go to the theatre regularly, but her support workers finish at 4pm so she never gets to go. Could you go with her and share in the magic of the theatre?
Katie likes learning about history and loves to visit stately homes and museums. She also enjoys walks in the countryside and has a particular love of horses. Could you spend an afternoon delving into history or enjoying the countryside with Kate?
Sally likes going bowling and going to the cinema. She enjoys visits to the theatre and the pub. Sally would like to make a friend to go and do these things with. Could this be you?

John has a keen interest in history. He likes national trust properties, museums and enjoys battle re-enactments. He also enjoys the theatre and the cinema. He is a young man and would ideally like to make friends with someone his own age with similar interests. Could this be you?
Daisy wants to go shopping. She loves clothes but has some difficulties understanding money. She also loves going to the cinema to watch romcoms and swimming. Could you shop till you drop with Daisy?
Janet love Bingo. She also enjoys theatre, the cinema, live music or a nice meal in a pub. She dreams one day of being able to see her favourite animals in the wild, Dolphins. Could you enjoy the fun things in life with Janet?
Jane is a small person with a huge personality. She loves socialising, going out to eat or just for a coffee but can’t get out much because she needs support to travel. Jane is a one of a kind character; could you go with her for a coffee and a chat?
Mark is a young man who would like to make some new friends. He enjoys the seeing action films at the cinema, likes bowling and going to the pub. Could you help Mark widen his social circle?
Molly is an artist and love to create. She likes visiting galleries and enjoys the cinema but mostly wants to get out of the house to do something new, she said she will try anything once! If you have an adventurous side like Molly and a few hours a month to spare could you discover new and wonderful things together?
Nathan has a big imagination and a great sense of humour. He is very shy and can take a bit of time getting to know new people and situations but once he gets to know you he is great fun . He would ideally like some in the Wolvercote area who is reliable and patient to go for short walks, coffees, visiting the local pub to watch sport and going to look at the trains.

Steven is an avid photographer and enjoys travel, walking and visiting new places to photograph. He also enjoys film, the gym and watching Manchester United and the Rugby in the pub. If you have a passion for photograph could you find new and exciting places to photograph with Steven?
Adam is a young man with Asperger's who would really like a Buddy to discuss psychology with. He has a particular interest in social psychology. He is currently doing an Open University degree in psychology and is about to start his second year. Apart from psychology he enjoys going for coffees, bars, museums and going on walks. Adam is socially isolated and would like the chance to make a new friend.
James would like to go to the gym and get fit. He needs support in doing this and trying other new things due to his Autism. He enjoys going on walks with his dogs and likes the quieter things in life. Could you support James in his quest for fitness?
