My name is Paul and I have been a victim of bank fraud.

I received a call from people claiming to be my bank. The call sounded genuine because they claimed to be from the fraud retention team.

They read out numbers from the back of my card and because they were right I believed them. They also asked me for the long number of my card and expiry date. So I gave it to them.

Please be aware that the bank will never ask you for your long card number.

If something like this happens, you should call your bank. There is a 24 hour bank line where you can make sure you are not handing out personal information.

Here are some of my tips for you to protect yourself from scammers:

You can be scammed by telephone, online and by text. Take care of your personal information.

Do not give out your details over the phone. Go into your bank branch when you can.

When taking money out be aware of your surroundings and make sure no one is looking at your pin. When you are using a card machine, try and use the machines in the bank when possible. Some scammers copy cards while you are taking money out.

Don’t let anybody else use your card.
