Let's Celebrate #LDWeek2020
This week is #LDWeek2020, so we asked Paul what makes him proud...
20 Jun 2020
My name is Paul Scarrott.
Before lockdown, I was a Travel Buddy and helped at Stingray.
Since lockdown started I have fewer things to do.
I am still doing my Jobs and Money meetings but they're online.
I am still campaigning about problems that face people with learning disabilities.
But I wanted to do more to help other people.
So I signed up to be a Phone Buddy.
I wanted to keep MLMC members connected and support them.
My buddies say it is nice to have someone to talk to.
I can give them ideas of things to do to keep busy.
It has given me confidences to talk to new people.
I am enjoying it and I am helping people.
Friendship is important.
Everyone has got problems and talking to friends can help.
That's what this year's #LDWeek2020 is all about, supporting each other during lockdown.
It can get boring with the same people you are in lockdown with.
Too much time together can lead to arguments.
It can also be boring living by yourself during lockdown.
It can make you feel lonely and sad.
When you have friends to talk to it helps to reduce stress.
I have 5 Phone Buddies.
Phone Buddies is a good way of connecting to each other.
We can all help each other and let people know they are not on their own.
